Co-creating a sustainability performance assessment tool for public sector organisations

Organisations are increasingly being pushed to manage, assess and report their sustainability performance, including public sector organisations (PSO). Several approaches were developed implement assessments at the organisation level. However, majority still for private often not supported by active stakeholder involvement. PSO have adapted private-oriented models which adequate due administration, whose main mission is provide services. The present work aims developing a conceptual framework support performance. proposed approach two performance assessment systems – Formal Informal Sustainability Performance Assessment. Assessment system, focus of this paper, consists checklist objectives practices set twenty-nine (29) indicators. An initial proposal was drawn from literature review then assessed through participatory process involving practitioners academics in semi-structured interviews, questionnaire surveys collaborative workshop. Portuguese central administration used as case study. related indicators will allow communicate complex information about organisational sustainability. Reference values normalization indicators’ results, consequently, comparison sustainability-related between integrated into context administration. This research contributes debate on communication, importance selecting using co-creation processes with key stakeholders.
